Privacy Policy

Effective 13 June 2026

What we collect

DNSbyte does not collect personal information. When you use a tool, the domain, IP or data you enter is passed to the relevant external service (a DNS resolver, WHOIS server, SSL endpoint, or similar) to produce a result. We do not log what you look up.

To enforce fair-use rate limits, we store a temporary record keyed on a SHA-256 hash of your IP address. The raw IP is never written to disk. These records expire automatically after 120 seconds.

Query results are cached for up to 60 seconds using a hash of the query parameters. No personal data is part of the cache key or its contents.

Cookies and local storage

We use localStorage (not cookies) to store two preferences:

  • Theme preference - your chosen colour scheme (light or dark). Set when you use the toggle in the top bar.
  • Cookie consent - whether you have accepted or declined analytics tracking. Set when you interact with the consent banner.

Neither value is sent to our server or shared with third parties.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to measure site usage. Analytics is blocked by default and only loads after you accept cookies via the consent banner. If you decline, Google Analytics is never initialised and no data is sent to Google.

You can change your preference at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer. Selecting it clears your saved choice and re-shows the banner.

When Analytics is active, Google may set cookies and collect usage data under their own Privacy Policy.

Third-party services

The following external services are used:

  • Fonts - Space Grotesk and Space Mono are served from cdn.deliverify.net. No tracking or analytics is attached to font delivery.
  • External resolvers and services - when you use a tool, your query is forwarded to the appropriate external service (such as a DNS resolver, WHOIS server or SSL endpoint). Only the query itself is sent - no identifying information is included.
  • Google Analytics - only loaded after explicit consent, as described above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
